BAY AREA · COUNTERTOPS & BACKSPLASH
Stone that defines the room. Details that finish it.
Consider surface character, everyday maintenance, edge profiles, and a backsplash that brings the cabinetry together.

THE SCOPE
A considered surface palette
Compare real samples alongside your cabinetry and lighting. Confirm cabinet support, appliance details, and final measurements before fabrication.
Edge profiles and seam planning
Sink, cooktop, and faucet cutouts
Backsplash height and transitions
PLANNING THE WORK
What comes before
installation.
Fabrication follows final templating and material availability. Confirm that production window before removing existing counters; reconnecting fixtures and finishing the backsplash are separate steps.
Bring to the site review
- Cabinet layout and existing support conditions
- Sink, faucet, and cooktop specifications
- Preferred slab appearance, edge profile, and backsplash height
What changes the estimate
Surface material, slab quantity and yield, fabrication, seams, cutouts, edge profiles, backsplash extent, delivery access, and support work.
Materials, labor, allowances, and related trade work are listed separately in the written scope. Whole-kitchen price ranges are not individual-service quotes.
Compare materials
Review samples with cabinetry and lighting; compare maintenance, finish, and edge options.
Template the installed base
Confirm secure cabinetry, final appliance details, sink specification, and the measured surface layout.
Fabricate and fit
Approve seams and cutouts before fabrication, then coordinate installation and the agreed connection work.
CABINETS, MATERIALS & SCHEDULING
Specify the cabinets.
Then set the start.
The cabinet schedule records the manufacturer, line, construction, finish, dimensions, accessories, and supplier-confirmed delivery date.
Stock cabinetry
Check available sizes, filler requirements, finish availability, and whether every piece is in stock before demolition.
Semi-custom cabinetry
Confirm size options, finished panels, storage inserts, shop-drawing approval, and the supplier’s current production slot.
Custom cabinetry
Approve measured drawings, finish samples, appliance integration, and fabrication details before release. Delivery depends on the selected shop.
Brand and cabinet-line selection is project-specific. Lead times are confirmed in writing with the supplier rather than promised as a universal delivery window.
Before construction
Measure → approve layout and selections → obtain required permits → confirm cabinet delivery.
Early construction
Protect the home, demolish the agreed scope, complete rough trades, and pass required rough inspections.
Installation
Install cabinetry, measure and fabricate countertops, then coordinate backsplash, appliances, and final trade work.
Completion
Complete final inspections, review the punch list, and hand over agreed documentation.
Planning windows after approvals and materials: 5–7 weeks for a same-layout remodel and 8–14 weeks for structural or utility changes. Actual milestones follow the agreed scope and inspection availability.
BEFORE YOU REQUEST A VISIT
Plan this part of your kitchen.
Scope, scheduling, and permits come before the final price.
Cost
Surface material, slab quantity and yield, fabrication, seams, cutouts, edge profiles, backsplash extent, delivery access, and support work.
An individual-service estimate follows measurements and a defined scope. The full kitchen ranges do not price this work on its own.
Duration
Fabrication follows final templating and material availability. Confirm that production window before removing existing counters; reconnecting fixtures and finishing the backsplash are separate steps.
Permits
Permit requirements follow the city and exact scope. Cabinet replacement can require a permit even if the layout stays. Electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and wall changes generally need local review before work begins.
Find your city’s permit guideCan the layout stay?
Yes, subject to the existing conditions and appliance fit. A same-layout remodel can replace cabinetry and surfaces while keeping the main footprint. Wiring, plumbing, ventilation, and permits still need review. Wall removal and relocated utilities are separate scope decisions.
05 / BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A few good
questions.
Before planning your countertops & backsplash project.
When are countertops measured?
Final fabrication measurements are normally taken after the base cabinets are installed and secure. Sink and appliance specifications should be confirmed before templating.
How is this work priced?
Pricing follows a site review and a written scope. Material selections, measurements, installation conditions, and related utility work determine the estimate; a whole-kitchen planning range is not a quote for this individual service.
Where do you offer this service?
Share your project city to confirm availability. The kitchen service area includes San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Fremont, Milpitas, Walnut Creek, Concord, San Ramon, and Danville.
A WRITTEN SCOPE YOU CAN REVIEW
See what the plan
needs to define.
Illustrative scope outline. This is not a completed project, client proposal, quote, or construction agreement.
- Material
- Name the selected material, color, slab allocation, thickness, and finish.
- Fabrication
- Show seam locations, edge profile, cutouts, overhangs, and any required support.
- Backsplash
- Identify the exact coverage, transitions, outlet coordination, and finish details.
- Connections
- State who removes and reconnects the sink, faucet, disposal, and cooktop, with trade work itemized.
